There’s Nothing Like Your Camp Friends…and Making New OnesOctober 21, 2014
There’s nothing like your camp friends…and making new ones!
Our campers and staff really like being together, and we all find it hard to be away from each other for so long after the summer ends. This past weekend we had our first off-season camp event of the fall and about 60 boys and girls from around the Tri-State area joined us at the GAGA Center in NYC. For about 2 hours we played their favorite playground game, ate pizza, and just enjoyed being together with our camp friends. There was so much hugging, cheering and smiling. A great time was had by all!
After our veteran camper event, we then welcomed almost 30 new campers and their families to their own GAGA party. Our counselors and administrators were on hand to help our excited (and a little nervous) community members meet one another. After introductions we played GAGA, had some laughs, and enjoyed creating the foundation for friendships that will blossom this summer. This event always goes a long way towards lessening pre-Camp anxiety, and getting our kids really excited for the summer.
And while the kids and counselors were playing, Scott met with the parents to answer the questions they have generated since their summer tour or fall home visit, and have a more in-depth discussion about the importance of the 21st century skills that our summer camp teaches. I wrote about these skills in a blog last week (and provided a 2 minute video by Scott that you might find interesting as well) if you’d like to read more about them.
It was a great event, and we were so happy to have more time to get to know our new campers better. Our off-season new camper events allow us the time to gain more knowledge about each child, which will help us create more compatible bunks and counselor pairings this summer!
On Sunday, November 2nd we will host our first off-season camp event in the Greater Boston Area. As with the events in NYC it will bring new and future camp friends together for a really good time. For more information on our upcoming GAGA Gathering in the Boston Area please click on this link.
It was wonderful seeing so many of our camp friends this past weekend, and we can’t wait to see more of you soon!
