Another Amazing Special Event For Our Brother/Sister Summer Camp In NH
Our camp community loves being together, and this weekend we had a really fun party in the Boston area. Veteran campers, staff and parents, along with many of our new campers, spent a Sunday afternoon playing Gaga and ping pong, working on art projects, celebrating the birthday of a friend, and just enjoying being together with our camp friends.
Over 30 kids from the Greater Boston and Rhode Island area, and more than a dozen staff, from our brother/sister summer camp joined us yesterday. When you spend 7 incredible weeks together forming incredible friendships it can become hard to suddenly not see each other for awhile. Many of our campers return home and report that they are suddenly “camp sick”. They miss their friends, they miss the fun, and they miss being a part of such a nurturing community. To help aleviate this camp sickness (which we feel, too) we schedule these amazing special events throughout the year. As you can see from the photos, it doesn’t take long for our campers, staff and parents to reconnect with what makes being in our camp family so special and fun.
This party was also a chance for some of our newest campers to meet some of their peers. One of the ways that we have so many happy campers during the summer is by helping them create the foundation for strong friendships during these pre-camp events. Having the opportunity to play games, work on art projects, and giggle together lowers pre-camp anxiety, and helps better prepare new campers for their first summers at our brother/sister summer camp in NH!
As I have mentioned in some of my other recent blogs, Kenwood and Evergreen is a completely peanut and tree nut free community. We are also very happy to welcome campers who are allergic to things like eggs, dairy, soy or mustard seed. Even during the off-season we always make sure that our events are peanut and tree nut free, and offer quality alternatives for our friends who eat gluten free (or need some other special food accommodation). This weekend was camper Maddie’s birthday, and we were excited to celebrate with her. Maddy eats GF, so my wife Deena happily made both Gluten Free and Gluten Full cupcakes. Some of our friends in attendance had other allergies as well, so the cupcakes were dairy and egg free as well! We love how easy it is to provide a tasty and safe community for all of our friends!
Our next event will be a Camp Reunion on Saturday, December 13th at Longfellow Athletic Club in Natick, MA. Our Senior Camper Winter Weekend will be January 9 – 11, and our Tri-State Area Camp Reunion will be on Saturday, February 13th. To see our full calendar of events for 2014 -2015 please click here.
