A Great Night With Camp Friends In The Boston AreaDecember 15, 2014
It was wonderful seeing so many of our camp friends this past Saturday. Almost 100 campers, staff and parents joined us for our annual camp reunion at the Longfellow Sports Club in Natick, MA! Many of our campers and staff had not seen each other since our closing day of the summer, and you could see how happy everyone was to be together. While most at the reunion live locally, a number of campers and staff traveled from New York, New Jersey, and even Georgia!
After lots of hugs and hellos we gathered in the main gymnasium for a group photo, and to watch the premier of the Summer 2014 Camp Video Yearbook. The full video is more than 40 minutes long, so we only watched a short preview. If you’d like to see the preview please click here. Then it was a chance to do what makes us all happy: WE PLAYED. Some played basketball, gaga, touch football and dodge ball, while others swam and dove off of the diving boards. Campers hung out in the hot tub and caught up on each other’s lives while others sat on the floor and did the same. The whole scene reminded me of what takes place every night after dinner at our summer camp in NH, during an activity called Free Play. Free time to socialize and play is an important part of human development, and you could see how much our community missed having the daily opportunity to do this with their Camp friends. Throughout the building, campers and counselors were running around, laughing and giggling, just so happy to be together. There really is nothing quite like your camp friends.
After a whole lot of playing we gathered together for dinner. Camps Kenwood and Evergreen is a tree nut and peanut free summer camp, and so are all of our off-season events. Thankfully, we have relationships with restaurants near all of our camp reunion locations that are happily able to provide us with meals that are safe for our entire community! Just like at our recent Gaga parties for new and veteran campers, we were happy to serve gluten free refreshments to our friends who are GF. We also had soy free and dairy free options, too.
As the party began to wind down we handed all of our camp reunion guests the latest Kenwood and Evergreen t-shirt that we have designed. If you were unable to attend the party on Saturday and would like a shirt please email me and I will send one to you. Please note that we will be giving them out to everyone at the upcoming Tri-State Area Reunion on Saturday, February 7th at the Chelsea Piers in Stamford, CT.
It was great to see so many camp friends this past weekend in Natick, and we can’t wait to see more of you just after the New Year. For those celebrating Hanukkah, we hope that you have a wonderful start to the holiday tomorrow evening!!
