A camper’s school project about why she loves our NH sleep away campNovember 28, 2017
Our campers are very passionate about our community, and this often leads to them create amazing projects for school about our sleep away camp in New Hampshire. Recently, Caroline, who will be returning to K&E for her 3rd summer in June, wrote this detailed report about why she loves being a part of the Evergreen Sisterhood, and why being away from home for 7 weeks makes her so happy!
Her project reads a lot like a newspaper, with 4 different sections that deftly describe what life at our summer camp in NH is like, along with how someone unfamiliar with Kenwood and Evergreen could make the most of this experience:
- My Favorite Things At Camp
- How To Make The Most Out Of Every Summer
- Evening Activities
- Living In A Bunk
These are some of our favorite nuggets of wisdom from our young friend in NYC:
“Camp is 7 weeks. It seems long, but it’s not. That’s why you have to make the most out of every summer.”
“Do what you want to do, not what your friends want to do. Like I said, camp is short, and you want to have as much fun as possible”
“You bunk is your home. You do many activities and competitions with the people in your bunks, as your team…You can, and should, hang out with people in other bunks”
“Evening activities are activities that are an hour after dinner…Evening activities are awesome!”
“If you’re homesick that’s okay! Here are some tips to help you feel better:
Talk to friends. It helps take your mind off of things.
Talk to your counselors
Listen to happy music. You’d be surprised!
Don’t stress. I know it’s easier said than done, but you have got to try
Do all of these things to make the most out of every summer!”
On behalf of the entire Camps Kenwood and Evergreen family we want to give Caroline a big “Acka-Lacka-Ching” (one of our celebration songs) for writing such a fantastic piece about her love of our sleep away camp. We also want to thank her for sending it to us, and for giving us permission to share it with the world. You are a great writer and did a fabulous job explaining what our community is all about: fun experiences, making deep friendships, and learning how to be a stronger, more resilient person!
