For many years our summer camp community has supported a charity called “Mickey’s Kids”. Named after former K&E counselor & camp parent Mickey Dank, it raises money to make the overnight camp experience available for children from economically disadvantaged families.
This week we got this letter from one of our Kenwood and Evergreen campers who has made raising money for Mickey’s Kids the focus on his bar mitzvah tzedakah project. Take a look!
Dear Kenwood-Evergreen community,
My name is Matt Ross and I have been going to Kenwood for three summers. Camp is my favorite part of the year because you can be yourself and make amazing friends with cool people from all over the world and with different backgrounds .
For over fifteen years, Mickey’s Kids has been raising money so that less fortunate kids can receive a scholarship to go to Camp. This charity is really important to me because one of my favorite counselors came to Kenwood as a camper through Mickey’s Kids. I also want other kids to be able to enjoy the magic of camp.
Even with a scholarship to Camp, it still costs a lot of money to get all the necessary clothes and supplies. As part of my Bar Mitzvah project, I am organizing a supply drive so that’s this year’s scholarship recipients can have all the supplies they want/need to have an amazing summer.
I have created a Signup Genius with the essentials on the camp packing list. Some of these are specific items, but most are gift cards to allow the kids to choose what they need for camp.
Would you please consider donating one or more of the needed items?
