A camp is only as good as its staff, and the values that they instill in the camp community. That's why we focus so much of
our effort on hiring the best, brightest and most compassionate staff for our campers! At K & E, staff are hired as General
(bunk) Counselors, or as Specialist Counselors. Our Specialty staff excel in teaching sports and art skills along with values like teamwork,
acceptance, and inclusion. They help to build campers' self esteem by helping them to grow as athletes and artists. There is
no substitute for real life success as an esteem builder. While skill building is important, the most impactful part of the summer
for any child is his/her bunk experience. The relationships that our campers
form with our bunk counselors, and with each other, provide an opportunity
for our children to strengthen their emotional and social intelligence,
and to build lasting friendships. Bunk counselors are the relationship
coaches for our campers. They also impart a sense of the greater camp
community and reflect our shared values. For this reason, over two thirds of our bunk counselor staff is comprised of former K&E campers. They already know what
our camp experience is all about, and can draw on their past experiences with their own bunk counselors to inform their decision-making.
Additionally, we spend each winter interviewing candidates at some of the finest universities in the nation. The most important
qualities we seek in our staff are compassion, intelligence, fun, energy, patience, and a genuine love of children. All potential
staff members must participate in an exhaustive interview process, including mandatory reference and background checks. Each
counselor is personally interviewed. Traditionally, over 80% of our bunk staff return to camp each summer. Last year more than
85% of our staff returned, and we expect to break that record in 2007! Size Special Events at Camp
