Kenwood & Evergreen's Leaders

Scott Brody / Owner & Director

brodyScott has spent most of his summers growing up at Camps Kenwood & Evergreen. Before having the chance to live his dream and become the Owner and Director in 1996, Scott held a variety of positions at camp, including Bunk Counselor, Unit Leader, Head Counselor & Assistant Director.

Scott graduated from U.C. Berkeley in 1987, and then received his JD from Boston College Law School. Scott currently serves as the National Vice President of the American Camp Association. He was the Program Chair of the Tri-State Camp Conference, the largest educational conference for camp professionals in the world, and currently sits on the ACA National Public Policy Committee.  In 2006, Scott received both the National Service Award and the Tri-State Award from the American Camp Association for his service to the Camp industry.

Making music with campers and staff at our annual Hollowpallooza concert is one of the many highlights of Scott’s summer at Camp, and playing guitar at night in the bunk and visiting with staff around the campfire are his favorite ways to cap off the day at camp!

Scott is the father of AJ, one of the youngest members of our Camp Community!

Phyllis Dank / co-Director

Co-Director Phyllis Dank and her four grandchildrenPhyllis has spent over 55 summers at Camp Evergreen. In 1951, Phyllis followed her older brother Bob and joined the Kenwood-Evergreen family as a camper. She brought her husband Mickey to Camp when they married, and through the years Mickey worked as a bunk counselor, our legal counsel, and eventually as our Transportation Director until his untimely passing in 2002. Phyllis graduated with a degree in education from Boston University, and went on to teach in the Dover-Sherborn, Massachusetts schools for many years. Phyllis was the Evergreen Head counselor and Assistant Director throughout the seventies, eighties and nineties. When Scott became the owner of Camp in 1996, he asked Phyllis to join him as one of the Camps’ Directors.

Camp Evergreen is such a huge part of Phyllis’ life that her car license plate reads "GREEN&GOLD”—our Evergreen Camp colors. For Phyllis, camp is about smiles, laughter, songs, traditions, and most importantly, the love that we all feel for one another in the Kenwood & Evergreen community.

Phyllis raised her two kids Bryan and Randi at Kenwood & Evergreen, and looks forward to her grandchildren Tyler, Harper, Maya and Van growing up at K&E.

Jason Sebell / Assistant Director
Deena Sebell / Director of Counseling Services

The Sebell Family of Jason, Deena, Jack and MaxJason and Deena have each spent more than twenty years at Camps Kenwood & Evergreen, and are both the product of Kenwood-Evergreen marriages. Before joining the Camp Administrative Team Jason and Deena were Junior Counselors, Bunk Counselors, and Unit Leaders and Head Counselors.

Jason decided to make Kenwood & Evergreen his career when he was eight years old.  After graduating from Colgate University with degrees in Sociology and Anthropology, Jason began to work full time for Camp. As Assistant Director, Jason helps introduce families to the Kenwood & Evergreen community through phone calls, summer tours and off-season home visits.  He manages our website and produces our many forms of marketing and communication materials.  Jason has been a featured speaker at regional and national camping educational conferences for the past seven years, and is a standards visitor for the American Camp Association.

Deena received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Binghamton University in New York and her master’s degree and certificate of advanced graduate study in school psychology from the University of Massachusetts-Boston.  During the summer, as the Head of Counseling Services, Deena is available for campers and staff who need one-on-one help with the issues that can develop over the course of the summer.  She’s a really good listener.  When she’s not working at Camp she is the school psychologist and special education chairperson at the Paton Elementary School in Shrewsbury, MA.

Jason’s favorite thing to do at Camp is to play guitar and tell stories to cabins at bed time. Deena’s favorite moment each summer is when she gets to referee Evergreen’s Jell-O Wrestling. As a former softball player she also loves our Tri-State Softball Tournament, and she really enjoys the time she spends chatting in the bunks when it’s bedtime!

Jason and Deena met at Camp as children and got engaged in front of the entire Camp community at Hollowpallooza ’02. The third generation of this family to attend K & E have arrived in recent years… Deena and Jason have two young sons named Jack and Max. They also have a beagle named Winston.

More than 10 years later Catherine is now working full time as the Business Manager for Camps Kenwood & Evergreen.

Catherine graduated from Bridgewater State College in 1995 with a BS in Social Work. Two of Catherine’s, Rachel and Carolyne are now full time campers at camp and are counting the days for camp to begin.

Sarah Francis / Program Development Manager

Sarah Francis, Camp Office ManagerSarah is the newest member of the Camp Leadership team.   Sarah grew up in Scotland.  After graduating from the University of Edinburgh in 2002 with a BSc in Psychology, Sarah worked as an Event Manager.  She made her first trip to Kenwood & Evergreen in 2004, figuring that it would be “something to fill in one summer”.  After enjoying that first season as a general counselor, she switched roles and joined our summer office staff.   That’s where she found her true calling.  Sarah returned to Camp each of the following summers, spending her winters travelling around the world, and occasionally managing events back home.  In 2009 Sarah was offered the job of full-time Program Development Manager, with the responsibilities for planning, developing and directing administrative, educational, recreational and developmental programs and procedures for Camps Kenwood and Evergreen. We could not be more thrilled to have her as a permanent member of the Kenwood & Evergreen team.

Sarah lives in the Greater Boston area, though she is currently looking for a new apartment.  Sarah’s favorite place in Camp is the lake.
