Scroll-Log, October 2005 edition

While summer lingered long into September this year, it has certainly vanished in the last couple of weeks! Leaves have gone from green to orange, yellow and red, and now is seems to be raining leaves every day, especially when it’s windy. All of you are well into school by now, reconnected with your friends from home, doing your school work, and living the very full lives that all of you live. While you’ve been re-entering school life, we have been doing what we always do at this time of year—getting ready for next summer! We’ve been busy and can’t wait to show you what we’ve been up to!

Up in New Hampshire, Camp has been a busy place. Several of our summer 2005 staff stayed up at Camp for a few weeks, working with Dane on “Eagle Pond Lodge” events, and working outside with Pete to make our campus even more beautiful. Pete and his crew have been hard at work on our fall projects, planting new grass around Camp and opening up the woods behind Laurel and Cedar so that our girls will be able to see the lake next year and the Evergreen campus is even prettier. We’ve also been working to make the rest of our athletic fields first-rate in every way. Inside the bunks, we’ve been upgrading a number of bathrooms around Camp, and will be adding showers to the rest of our bunks in Kenwood’s Junior Unit. We’re also starting work on the biggest project of the year—the expansion of the Kenwood waterfront, which follows the work that we’ve been doing on Evergreen’s waterfront for the last couple of years. When that’s all through, Kenwood will have much more room that ever before, as well as a new building for storing boating equipment, lifejackets, and other aquatic items. Pete and his crew are incredible, and can’t wait to see the smiles on all of your faces when you see the work that they will have done by next summer.

Here in our Massachusetts office, we’ve also been busy. Dane is back with us after doing a great job running our post-camp events. He is happy to be back at work on Camp stuff, and is looking forward to focusing on connecting with our returning counselors, planning our reunions, and spearheading our staff hiring process. Jason has been hard at work since Camp ended recruiting new campers for next summer, as well as working on lots of projects, including our 2006 Camp Calendar, and updating the Camp web site. Thanks to Jason, the calendars will be headed to the printer shortly, and will be in your hands in record time! Catherine has been holding the whole winter office together, as she always does, keeping in contact with your families, and getting things ready for the start of next summer. I’ve been visiting with lots of new families—more than ever before, I think—as well as working on lots of other projects. We expect that we will have our biggest camper group ever in 2006! In the next few days, I’ll start mixing the songs from our incredible 2005 Hollowpallooza, and will be putting songs up on our website in MP3 format as they are ready for release. Life has sure been busy in the winter office!

I also wanted to let you know that our Summer 2005 Camper Survey is now available for you to fill out online. When you have the chance, please take a minute to visit our Camp Website (www.kenwood-evergreen.com) and click on the “For Campers” section at the top of our homepage. Once you are on our “Campers” page, look for the link to our “2005 Camper Survey” and click on it. You will also see a direct link to the survey in this edition of the Scroll-Log! Filling out the survey takes only a couple of minutes, but gives us incredibly important information about how to make Camp the very best place it can be for you!

I guess that’s all for now…I can’t wait to see all of our returning campers at our 2005 Reunions, as well as our new campers at our New Camper parties! In the meantime, have a great school year, and when you need a little boost, take a moment to remember all of those incredible moments this summer when you accomplished more than you ever thought you could!

We love you and miss you!

We want to send out a very special welcome to these newest members of our Camp family!

Parent & Camper input is essential as we evaluate each summer and plan for the future. We value our partnership with your family. We hope that you will take a few minutes to answer this online survey. As always, we are available by phone (781-793-0091) or in person to talk with you about any aspect of your family's Camp experience.

We know that your time is valuable and appreciate your help in making the Kenwood & Evergreen experience even better in the future.

We love running into Camp friends wherever we go! Since Camp we've bumped into the Weinrib & Weilheimer Families in line for the ferry boat leaving Martha's Vineyard, the Davidsons in line at Cold Stone Creamery, and this past week we saw the Stier-Cohens at the final Red Sox-Yankees game of the season. If you've spent time with any Camp friends this fall and have a picture send it to us so we can add it to the next Scroll-Log.

Can you guess which paws match which dog at Camp? The first camper to email us at Camp Contest Entry with the correct answer will be the first to own a brand new Camp banner.
